Recycling can be confusing, so we do it for you!
The mixed waste recycling process helps protect the environment by sorting through all the trash. When all waste generated in the community comes through one place, it makes identifying recyclables and pulling them for reuse more efficient. In other areas, where the customer is responsible for sorting recyclables, waste typically goes straight to landfill without being sorted for “missed” items.
Let’s face it, not everyone sorts their recyclables when given the choice. This results in recyclables and hazardous materials going straight to the landfill, potentially harming human health and the environment. At the Eastern Regional MRF, sorting through everything means more recyclables recovered and pulling hazardous waste that shouldn’t be there.
