Consistent with the goals and policies of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA), which requires export of solid waste from the basin and mandated solid waste collection, Placer County Code 8.16.220 makes garbage collection mandatory in the Tahoe/Truckee area.
Mandatory collection addresses litter, illegal dumping, illegal use of other’s services, and animal (bear) access to garbage.
CAN AVERAGING/CREDIT FOR NO PICK-UP
Can averaging is available to single family residences. With this option, residents can pay the flat fee for various levels of residential service for a full quarterly billing cycle (13 weeks); residents can vary the number of cans placed on any given week, provided the total number of cans placed does not exceed the total cans allowed for the quarter. An extra charge is applied for the quarter if the quarterly limit is exceeded; however if fewer cans are used, TTSD will apply a credit to the next quarterly billing cycle. Credits are only carried over one billing cycle and only if service continues. Can averaging is not used in conjunction with requests for exemptions for a home that would be unoccupied in a subsequent quarter.
COUNTY CODE EXEMPTION
Placer County Code allows for an exemption to mandatory service if a home is not occupied for an entire calendar month or longer. Home owners must notify Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal (TTSD) in advance. Homes not receiving service will be checked for occupancy; if found occupied, service will be started and the owner will be billed.
